Discipline v/s Distraction

''If you have Distractions, your circumstances will overcome you; but if you have Discipline, you will overcome your circumstances''

Hello everyone, this is SUPRIYO DAS, writing his 2nd blog on DISCIPLINE v/s DISTRACTION.
Today I'll make you know what actually Disipline and Distraction are...

Introduction to Discipline and Distraction:

  • Distraction
Distraction is the process of diverting the attention of an individual or group from a desired area of focus๐ŸŽฏ and thereby blocking or diminishing the reception of desired information.

  • Discipline
Discipline is a action that is regulated to be in accordance with a particular system of governance.

Discipline v/s Distraction:

If our Discipline is strong, our focusing capacity by which we focus towards our focus point will be more which will cut off all the issues of Distractions.
Distractions makes our focusing capacity weaker and weaker and after a period of time we get bewildered towards our path of destination.

If you have Discipline, your

Famous quotes from famous people:

Discipline is the bridge between Goals and Accomplishment

-Jim Rohn

Discipline is the choosing between What You Want Now and What You Want Most

 Stories from Milkha Singh:

In 1956, Milkha Singh went to Australia and there he met Betty Cuthbert while practising for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. The 18 year-old athlete, Betty, fell in love with Milkha's turban. They all went to party at night and there he had full enjoyment with lots of bear bottles and dances.

After that moment, he lost his level and lost the Pre-Qualifying race.
While returning to his home land, his coach, Ranveer Singh wrote 45.9 on Air India's paper piece and then he Identified his Distraction and won the very next race.

His Identification of Distraction made him felt the real position and his strong Discipline which he created after the Pre-Qualifying match made him move further by not letting him to be Distracted when the girl came close to him again the next time.

Stories from Mary Kom:

Mary Kom is a 5'2" foot dynamite.
But she also got Distracted.

In 2005, she married to a footballer, Karuna Onkholer; this was the time when she was at the peak of her career.

Her coach,  K. Kosana Meitei warned her that she might be lost in her married life and forgot her goal. But she didn't listened as she was lost in her newly married life.

When she, with her husband, was travelling by a bus, she was countered by a girl deliberately asking his father for an autograph of Mary Kom.
There Mary kom told that girl that if she work hard,  she'll get better even than Mary kom.

In that bus journey, she realised that she had lost her identity.

She again went to his coach and once again surrendered herself onto him and regained her own new Identity. Here also she developed a strong Discipline and cut off the roots of Distractions and got success.

Stories from Swami Vivekanand:

Do you know how much the focusing capacity of Swami Vivekanand was?
Let me tell you...

At his time,  he sat front of his house right down the street light for study.

Once upon a time, during his study, a fully well dressed wedding procession was passing through the road.

After the departure of the procession, a man came up to Vivekanand and asked him if there was a wedding procession passing by this road.
Vivekanand replied with amusement as he didn't heard the sound of it.

Such was his focusing capacity.

Extracts from Bhagavad Gita:

BG 3.36

Here Arjuna asks Krishna:

By what is one impelled to sinful acts, even unwillingly,  as if engaged by force?

BG 3.39

Here Krishna says to Arjuna:

Thus the wise living entity's pure consciousness becomes covered by his eternal enemy in the form of lust, which is never satisfied and which burns like fire.

BG 3.40

Here Krishna says to Arjuna:

The senses, the mind and intelligence are the sitting places of this lust.
Through them lust covers the real knowledge of the living entity and bewilders him.

How to overcome Distraction and establish Discipline within yourself:

The enemy has captured different strategic positions in the body of the conditioned soul, and therefore Lord Krishna is giving hints of those places, so that one who wants to conquer the enemy may know where he can be found. Mind is the centre of all the activities of the senses and thus when we hear about sense objects the mind is generally becomes a reservoir of all ideas of sense gratification; and as a result the mind and the senses become the respositories of lust. Next, the intelligence department becomes the capital of such restful propensities. Intelligence is the immediate Next-Door neighbor of the spirit soul.  Lusty intelligence influences the spirit soul to acquire the false Ego and identify itself in matter, and thus with the mind and senses, the spirit soul becomes addicted to enjoying the material senses and mistakes this as true happiness.

This false identification of the spirit soul is very nicely explain in the Srimad Bhagavatam-

"A human being who identifies this body made of three elements with his self, who considers the by-products of the body to be his kinsmen who considered as the land of birth worshipable, and who goes to the place of pilgrimage simply to take a bath rather than men of transcendental knowledge there is to be considered like an ass or a cow."

Ending Quote:

"Discipline is the key of the door to Success, but
Distraction is the Padlock of the door to Success "

-Supriyo Das
Thus To Overcome Distraction One Should Pay An Obsessive Attention To Detail In Bringing up a Strong Discipline In Himself / Herself...
